How India helped Ford develop a better Mustang.

By this time you guys might be knowing that Ford India has brought a new 'halo' car for its line-up in India and it is none other than the most iconic pony car of them all, The Mustang! (Badumm tsss). But the thing you might not be knowing is that India played a remarkable role in developing a better Mustang. Don't believe me? Well, here is the story.
Back in 2009 people at Ford in detroit were planning to build a new car for Mustang's 50th anniversary. And being a celebration model it had to be awesome all around. So they decided to make Mustang a global brand. And when you acknowledge there is world outside United States, you can't ignore right hand drive countries. That meant Mustang had to have a Right Hand Drive. Bossman of that meeting was a man from our shores, Mr. Prakash Patel (Drum roles please), Project Manager for Mustang and prime reason for the RHD Mustang.
However, Indialand was not on his mind when they opted to make a RHD version, but UK and Australia was. Then as the project went ahead later they realised India plays a even bigger role for Mustang's future. Due to the very strict (?) norms here in India, Mustang Development Team had to make some serious changes to meet the regulations.
Thanks to our polythene rich sewers water logging is a thing that a vehicle has to tackel without stopping. So changes to the engine bay were made and now Mustang was able to wade through 4 and a half inch of water. This was implemented straight away in all the Mustangs.
Then because being horn-y in traffic is national sport of our people the Mustang had to have a better horn. Result of which, Mustang now has a more durable and long lasting horn than what it otherwise would have. And these super strong herculean horns have been manufactured in Pune.
Ford also noticed that India is more on having low speed front and rear collisions, hence a new fascia and rear bumper was due for better protection. But that was not all, Mustang had to undergo a truckload of other packaging changes as well. Like the turn indicator stalk, in US, UK they are placed in LH side of the steering, India bound Mustang have them on RH side.
All in all, all these changes improved Mustang a lot and it would be worth to see if that has ever worked out in the real world. So, if you happen to own an all new American Mustang, (apart from the horn) and willing to confirm India inspired changes are good or not, we are more than happy to oblige. Keep in mind, certainty of the mind is a good thing. And dear Americans, its Indians who gave you a better Mustang. Yes, you people are welcome.
