Maserati has made an SUV

Maserati had been telling us that it is making an SUV and now finally it has. If you appreciate Maserati's styling prowess in the forms of its menacing coupes and handsome sedans then this new entrant in the lineup might be a bit hard to digest.

Even we are still not sure if we like it here at our office. The front is typically Maserati but now with some ruggedness added to it. There is a Ghibli like sharp curve at the back while some styling ques reminds of the Alfieri concept. Also if you look at it from side, you'll notice the back is very much slopy and has a small integrated spoiler to it. So all in all it does carry elements of a sports car. But looking like a sports car is a thing and performing like one is another. Speaking of which, Maserati tells, Levante's handling is unmatched in the very low grip scenarios. We simply take that it will not be drifty. But then it has some serious serious competition from Porsche's Macan, LR Evoque, Jag's F Pace and some other posh cross-overs out there.

Maserati is telling first few cars have come off assembly line from its manfacturing plant in Turin. And proper launch is scheduled for the spring and where as rest of the world gets it sometime later. But we will get to see it in flesh at next month's Geneva Auto Show. So till then we are trying to look at it from all the perspectives possible and see if it grows on us. Until then, tell us what you think of this Maserati.

No, we still don't think it's an SUV. Still no. Not yet.
